Eucalyptus’s personality is cool, rational and quite centered. Most often you wouldn’t spot him in a crowd as he likes keeping a low profile. However, if he is in the room, he has the ability to diffuse conflicts by his calm and logical reasoning. People report that in his presence, they feel clear-headed, liberated and can breathe better. If you need a friend to push you to concentrate and finish a task with focus, Eucalyptus is the one to call. For extra tough situations, he may bring along Peppermint and Lemon too- they really do want the best for you!
Surprisingly immune to both fits of irrationality as well as bacterial and viral diseases, Eucalyptus seems to have been born with an ability to protect. He seems to be boring and predictable in love, and chooses his partner based on well-thought lists. He prefers someone who will compliment him well and not make too many waves in the relationship. Short, simple and sweet, right?
Fresh, powerful, penetrating and camphoraceous
Cold and flu: Eucalyptus can be used in a variety of ways to prevent a cold or flu, including diffusion, inhalation with a Eucalyptus steam blend, adding to the bath, chest rub or room spray. Eucalyptus has several properties that make it so effective for this purpose. It’s expectorant actions are due to its high 1,8 cineole content (Ulmer and Schott 1991 cited by Bowles 2003). A test population with respiratory problems showed remarkable recovery when treated with Eucalyptus inhalations and topical application (Kamin et al 2017).
Mental fatigue: Multiple studies have shown that inhaling the aroma of Eucalyptus reduces mental fatigue, and alleviates headaches related to sinus congestion. Inhalation of 1,8 cineole, the major constituent of Eucalyptus oil, increases cerebral blood flow (Buchbauer 1996) and improves cognitive performance (Moss and Oliver 2012). Eucalyptus blends well with Peppermint, Lemon, Rosemary ct. cineole, and Black Pepper.
Musculoskeletal: Its strong analgesic and antinociceptive properties make Eucalyptus great for adding to massage blends for reducing aches, pains, inflammation and rheumatic conditions (Silva et al. 2003).
Respiratory: Adding a few drops of Eucalyptus to a diffuser, tissue, bath, oil, cream, shampoo, liquid soap or foot soak and inhaling the aroma can help ease most forms of respiratory distress.
Air purifier: Spraying indoor air with a Eucalyptus-based emulsion at 2% dilution kills 70% of local airborne staphylococci. It also has antimalarial antiseptic actions (Tisserand, The Art of Aromatherapy, pg 221).
Immunostimulant: The anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and tonic properties of Eucalyptus account for the oil’s immunostimulant capacity.
Skin: Adding a few drops of Eucalyptus to a skin nourishing oil can help reduce oiliness and acne. The acne-fighting property of Eucalyptus is due to its 1,8 cineole content. 1,8 cineole has skin penetration enhancing properties (Guimarães et al. 2013) and is also active against Candida species (Kordali et al. 2005). Eucalyptus also inhibits production of sebum and decreases the size of sebaceous glands (Bhatt et al. 2011).
Eucalyptus is non-toxic and non-irritating but may cause sensitization and irritation when oxidized. Avoid internal use in case of severe liver disease or inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract and bile ducts.
Only use diluted on the skin. See here DILUTION GUIDELINES according to age or ailment. Discontinue in case of any skin irritation. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears and sensitive areas.
Keep out of reach of children. Care must be taken when using with children under 10 years and when using with asthmatics. If pregnant, nursing or under medical care please consult physician. Do not use internally, unless directed by a licensed aromatherapist or physician.
Use with caution around pets. When diffusing in the room make sure the door is open so that the animal can leave in case of discomfort.
Shelf Life: 3 years
We recommend storing oils in a cool, dark and dry area away from direct sunlight. Keep the cap closed tightly to avoid oxygen exposure. Oils that are past expiry date should not be used for therapeutic purpose but they can still be used for cleaning.
